Virginia Korean-Americans for Obama is a grassroots organization of volunteers founded to help organize the Korean-American community to elect Senator Barack Obama as the next President of the United States.
The group will conduct voter registration and absentee voting drives, make phone calls to voters, outreach to 1st and 2nd generation Korean Americans, and disseminate policy analysis. The group is also actively engaged with other Asian American and Pacific Islander groups.
The group will participate in the Korean-American Festival in Annandale that will take place September 26-28. In addition, the group is seeking to hold a foreign policy (with a focus on Korea issues) lecture event in early October with Frank Jannuzi, a professional staff member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and close Joe Biden aide who is now leading the Korea policy team for the Obama campaign as Senior Foreign Policy Advisor. Also, a Get-Out-to-Vote rally is planned for late October.
Nationally, many Korean American leaders have endorsed Obama, including civil rights activist and attorney Angela Oh, Boston City Councilor Sam Yoon, Edison NJ Mayor Jun Choi, SF Board of Education Commissioner Jane Kim, and Susan Ahn Cuddy, the daughter of Korean independence fighter Dosan Ahn Chang Ho and the first female gunnery officer in the U.S. Navy. Korean-Americans for Obama groups have been formed in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Philadelphia.
Volunteers are welcomed. Please contact vakaobama@gmail.com
